Zoos and Aquariums

San Francisco Zoos and Aquariums

San Francisco is well known for its animal residents.  Observe animals in their natural habitat or marvel at their playful antics.  Treat yourself to a day at the aquarium, the zoo, Parrot Jungle or Monkey Jungle-- just to name a few.

Monterey Bay Aquarium, is located in Cannery Row, is open from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. May through Labor Day, and 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. the rest of the year, except Christmas Day. For more information, call 831/648-4888.

While visiting San Francisco a great destination too check out the local sea-life would be the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Monterey Peninsula offers a treasure of diverse recreational activities. The Monterey Bay, twice as deep and wide as the Grand Canyon with an abundance of sea life, such as sea otters and sea lions, is a scuba diver's dream. For surfers, the Bay offers fast-breaking and challenging waves. And the fishing, well, it's world renowned with salmon as the favorite catch.  The aquarium tour exhibits take you into the hidden world of Monterey Bay, a spectacular ocean realm at the heart of the nation's largest marine sanctuary. The exhibits re-create the bay's habitats, from shallow tide pools to the open ocean and deep sea. The world-renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium boasts a million-plus visitors each year. Exhibits reveal deep-sea life, an Outer Bay filled with sharks, jellyfish and tuna; a three-story Kelp Forest and the family oriented Splash Zone, featuring live species such as penguins, moray eels and sea dragons.
